You'll know nothing and be happy

DHH is getting to the point where he is clearly some kind of Pied Piper of Hamelin, leading the hordes of lazy rats to the river just to drown them in his fecal dotfiles.

Now in his messianic phase, he's shouting "Omarchy" at the top of his lungs from the stage. Don't let yourselves be fooled by the long hair and the hippie beard - he's still just a salesman, and now backed to the hilt by a merciless bunch of celebrity millionaires. Yeah, the same familiar faces: Shopify, Dell, Dorsey, DHH himself- all those who've been pushing the AI, like there's no tomorrow - well, there ain't one if their dreams come true. They've already thrown everything but the kitchen sink at it, and now DHH is giving it a go.

As always, DHH is turning everything he touches into a golden pile of shit - a few decades ago it was Ruby - he turned the language with his infamous framework "Ruby on Rails" into a shit show of slowness and clown juice, all while selling "productivity" and "aesthetics" until the kidnapped language was destroyed and itself became irrelevant. Now he sells something similar but in a different age. DHH is a man for all seasons.

After some long years of irrelevance - remember, the guy is a salesman who sold a scripting-language framework to the 2000s hipsters - He discovered - OMG - Linux. In his 60s, the guy discovered Linux as a "great OS," and that's where the story begins.

I really don't wanna look back, but hordes of really dumb people fell for his Ruby on Rails scam - the damage was done more than a decade ago and still can be felt. His minions, his scummy cult, are still around - at least some of them are - the most fanatical ones. He did a lot of damage with his "RoR", and this time is no different - he is coming for your operating system - cuz he came up with something "even better" and "more productive".

-I hate rust. It's like pouring acid in my eyes when I have to look at the code- he said a few months ago. But then, since Rust is very fast and efficient, he had a genius idea: let the agents write Rust. And for his Omarchy Linux distro - let the agents write the dotfiles and all the settings and whatever.

I don't even know where to begin. It would be so hard to explain to someone stupid why Rust was never meant to be written in some automagical way - so you don't have to think about it.

When the Rustaceans started the Rewrite it in Rust trend, it was half humorous, half serious- but it was about consciously rewriting software. Please mind the "consciously" part of the phrase. It wasn't a matter of surrendering to generative coding. It's about thinking about how to make everything better and more efficient.

Of course - the road to hell is paved with good intentions - so a few months later, there were loads of crazies sticking their dirty fingers into other projects, yelling "RIIR!" everywhere and turning the Rust community into a meme. And hey - I'm not the guy to tell anyone that Rust is beautiful - and the Rustaceans are wonderful - Rust is uglier than beating your own father with a sweaty sock, and the Rustaceans are a cult - a special kind of cult - "The Rust Foundation" is a mix of the politics of the early 2020s and some really weird people who finally sold their souls to Microsoft as a major sponsor.

And now - even Windows is being rewritten in Rust, well, parts of it at least, they say - and in the worst kind of Rust - the kind generated by agents while driving the bug rate into oblivion. The "expert engineers" are supposedly there to review hundreds of thousands, or maybe even millions, of lines of that "acid in DHH's eyeballs" code.

Oh, thank you, DHH, for bringing us the Linux, my man. The deliberate level of ignorance, enshittification, and broken AI-shill philosophy is astonishing. Linux is a kernel and an infinite (and sometimes messy) ecosystem of distros, philosophies, and communities. Debian, Arch, Fedora, Alpine, Gentoo, Mint, you name it. There are "I compile everything from scratch" distros and "I just plug it in, and it works" distros - but never, until now, "be ignorant and surrender". It will never be whatever DHH wants it to be.

Linux was never supposed to be an operating system where you blindly ask some magical entity to configure stuff for you - it's first and foremost an open book that lets you learn interactively, on your own OS - what you want, where you want, and when you want. The freedom of learning and knowing.

If you are not interested in starting on hardcore mode, just use a distro that is "beginner-friendly" and then learn anyway. There is no substitute for learning. You can't learn without spending time, showing interest, and burning a few synapses. There is no learning without pain. And that knowledge is yours.

In his videos, DHH talks about "the return of the hacker aesthetic" while showing us a terminal. What the fuck is he even talking about? It's about ethics, not aesthetics. Yeah, be a "hacker" as in "life hacker" or "growth hacker" or whatever fill-in-the-blank hacker pink-cloud scam bubble.

Be an AI-whisperer developer - developer as in DHH - whose entire career is about cosplaying as a programmer and spawning some of the most insufferable hipster wannabes of the last few decades - people who really couldn't program anything to save their lives. Now - he is against Mac - the same Mac he spent years popularizing - because Ruby is dead, RoR is dead. Well, I mean, the living mummies of RoR are still clinging hard to the expensive infrastructure of his sponsor buddies, like Slopify.

Just one question - Why do you think no one on hacker channels would answer easy questions? It's because the knowledge is yours, but you have to get to it - It's not handed to you. You are not a "puny stupid human", "inefficient", or "left behind". You are able to learn from the manuals, the books, and now from the Internet- but hey, they already stole the Internet and all the books. Anthropic literally destroyed millions of physical books after scanning them (take a look at Project Panama), so a lot of those physical copies are gone forever - and the knowledge will be theirs to alter however they want to. Wait, they say those were "just some of the physical copies - not all of them". First of all, that's no excuse for the deliberate destruction of human-written art, and how can we even know how many of those were the last copies?
Your knowledge and your machines are important. Don't lose any of them. Not even a dotfile.
